Kathleen Mackey is a Toronto-based media freelancer, specializing in documentary filmmaking and production coordinating. Currently, she is a Production Coordinator at Matter of Fact Media Inc.
Kathleen grew up on a farm in Oshawa, Ontario and has been interested in film and media since first picking up her Mum’s video camera. She completed her BFA (Honours) in Film Studies at Ryerson University where her focus on producing and documentary grew. In 2010 she graduated from the Documentary Media (MFA) program from Ryerson University with a thesis film that focused on the sale of her family’s farm in Whitby, Ontario. The project entitled “Saving My Family Farm” inspired a large-scale documentation of the farm before it disappeared and an exploration into home video, memory, family histories and changing landscapes. Kathleen is focused on making documentaries touching on personal stories and based on local subjects.
